Our institutes and workshops are designed around these principles:

  • create conditions that support professional learning and collaboration 
  • design high quality learning opportunities aimed at helping participants realize their goals
  • use high quality evidence reflecting current research and practice in higher ed

2018 Washington Center Events:

National Summer Institute on Learning Communities (NSILC), July 9-12, 2018 

NSILC is designed for campus teams implementing or expanding curricular learning community and/or living-learning community programs as high impact practices, aimed at improving student retention and student success. Teams leave with action plan in hand.

Using Evidence for Improvement: Teaching and Learning National Institute (TLNI), July 29-August 1, 2018

TLNI brings together campus teams committed to using evidence to identify areas of the student experience to strengthen and then, drawing from known successful practices, to construct more effective approaches both in and outside the classroom. Teams leave with action plan in hand.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) with an Equity Mindset National Institute, August 6-10, 2018 

SoTL is designed for individual educators (who may choose to attend with colleagues), and is grounded in a commitment to thinking about our practice as educators from an inquiry stance.

Learning Community Coordinator Meeting, February 1, 2018

A place for learning community coordinators to exchange ideas, share questions and effective practices, and hear about new research.

Curriculum Planning Retreat (CPR), April 26-27, 2018

CPR is designed for faculty teams who anticipate working together to design integrative learning experiences for students.
