Retreat Purpose: This year’s California Learning Communities Consortium Institute for Innovative Design and Practice will offer participants, both seasoned veterans and new learning communities instructors, the opportunity to deepen their understanding of learning communities design and practice. Individuals and teams will be given both guided and less structured opportunities to design integrated assignments that will be ready to use! This year’s special emphasis will be on Developing Evidence-Based Strategies for Teaching in Learning Communities. In addition to workshops on integrative assignments, the program includes a session on best practices, with an emphasis on Forging new Paths: Connecting LC’s to New and Emerging Initiatives.
The 2018 CLCC institute is responding to the challenges and opportunities we currently face in California’s higher education landscape. Whether you are at the beginning stages of developing learning communities (LCs) or have a longstanding program, the CLCC institute can help you identify ways to turn challenges into opportunities. We are at a major crossroads in California higher education, as we have the potential to serve students in new ways by strategically planning ways to embed learning communities into the groundwork of institutional initiatives such as Acceleration, Equity, High School Outreach, Pathways, and Strong Workforce. We encourage you and your team to join us and to invite colleagues invested in college initiatives so they can learn how LCs can strengthen their student success efforts and goals.
